Re: rear brake drum stuck
bigger hammer and also you can try to get a screwdriver into the hole on the back to move the adjuster lever and adjuster

Re: rear brake drum stuck
Our high school shop teacher said to just get a bigger hammer. It will either come off or break. I seem to remember carefully grinding the heads off the pins once to remove some drum brakes.

Re: rear brake drum stuck
Like old Rusty said...screwdriver through the backing plate slot, and back off with the adjuster.

Re: rear brake drum stuck
Try the backing plate if you can, but even if you smash it off with a sledge you aren't very likely to break anything that costs more than a few dollars.

Re: rear brake drum stuck
if its really stuck good, big hammer and a sharp chisel and crack it, drums are cheap.

Re: rear brake drum stuck
Back off the adjuster and spray some Kroil,PB blaster, etc at center of drum where it slides over axle.
It is more than likely hanging on the shoes. The shoes wear a groove in the drum over time and you have to back way off on the adjuster for the drum to clear the shoes. |
