I don't see a fairly stock 283 having enough more power than a 4.3 and it may not have as much hp or torque than some 4.3 engines, to get worried 700-R4 about.

The thing on a 700-R4 is and always has been the TV cable adjustment. It has to be perfect or else you have problems as Oneoffstroker mentioned in post #9. They just are not a forgiving trans if you get that adjustment off even the least bit.
