When the classic truck becomes your daily driver...

I sold my 97 silverado because it was getting to the point where it was going to need a lot of love , more than I was willing to do .. So til I find another to replace it ,Ol' blue has to take up the slack .. darn Michigan roads are beating it to death , but I can replace parts and panels this winter i guess..... I had to do some upgrades to the interior ...

It's all I ever drive - at least until it's sold, that is.
It's the shop truck, the grocery wagon, the camping vehicle, the scrap hauler, you name it. Most dependable truck I've had for years. Hate to sell, but too many projects and my crew cab diesel dually is about to hit the road.

I enjoy daily driving my 66. Always a conversation and always fun. Trying to sell the 2500, so I'm back to the 66 as a daily again this summer.

My wife has her Yukon I have my motorcycle which is the real daily driver then I have the 65. I wouldn't even consider a newer truck for my self. If we were to get something else the Yukon would go and if something happened to the 65 I would not get anything newer than a squarebody and i might not even go that far. We have had my dad's '12 silverado this week while the Yukon was getting worked on and it's a nice truck but just not for me.

My 64 has been my daily driver since day one. So used to it that I drove a "regular" vehicle and I was totally taken aback by the change in operation. Lol.

My `63 has been my only truck for 7 years. I sold a `92 K1500 `rado to buy it. I try to keep it off the PA roads when the conditions are the worst. Slowly upgraded mechanicals thru that time and now sub-standard body repair from some PO is rearing it's ugly head.

I bought my 63 to be one of my daily drivers. 70+ daily round trip. Since the disc upgrade I am up to 1000 miles without a hitch and my last tank was 18.9 mpg. My girl just bought a new Ram 1500 with the multi-displacement and it gets 19mpg - and is 6x what my truck cost. Drives nice quiet etc but in my 63 I never see myself on the road and you couldn't punch the smile off my face.

I drive my 66 most days or ride the bike. You get a lot of folks checking out your ride when you drive something that looks as good as our old trucks.

I drove my 1961 daily to work for 12 years when I lived in florida. It was super dependable and a lot more fun than a garage queen truck would of been. sold to a friend 12 years ago.

It was a little tatered body-wise "today called patina" but it was in super condition mechanically.

Daily drivers rule. I will start driving my present 66' more after I change the trans over to OD this winter.

When I was driving the 65 everyday people asked why I drove it it so much. I said "because its 15 years newer than the other one I drive"!!!

Wife drives a newer rig and I keep a couple older ones incase one is down for repair.

My 66 Burb used to be my daily driver and I am about ready to put it back in that same mode. I have been driving it alot lately and it is a great feeling. Sort of puts you back in time when life was simplier--- no check engine lights to come on, no power window motors failing (that happened yesterday on my Tahoe) People comment everytime I stop somewhere. I guess that is the difference between driving a $40K Tahoe or an old $4K Burb!!

As soon as I swapped out my trans in the 63 for an overdrive trans I drive it everywhere. It totally changed the truck! Best money I ever spent.

Wow, gets the truck before being old enough to legally drive it. Cool. You might even be our youngest member. When I was a teenager my daily driver was a bone stock 1953 International panel wagon. I had the oldest rig in the school parking lot even way back then.

That is one thing about my '63 , I always get the "hey what year is your truck " and I am thinking I should just get some stickers made up to go on the vent windows... Certainly gets more looks and thumbs up than the 97....The absolute worst thing is that Michigan roads are worse than GM's most grueling torture test , and I know I will have to rebuild the whole truck in the next year......... thats why it was not my daily driver before...

even though I'm 34 I too feel taken back to a simpler when I'm behind the wheel.

The best is the "hey what year is your truck? My dad, grandpa, uncle ect. had one just like it" or "my brother had one of those when he went away to war and never came back". I feel a rolling memory book for strangers it feels great.

There is also a park where homeless people hang out on my way to work. I see them smile as I roll by sometimes and can't help but wonder if they them self had a truck like this or a family member did back when things were better in their life and for 2 seconds I made their day

Overdrive and power brakes would be nice but other than that i love what I have and wouldn't buy my self a newer truck if I had unlimited funds

Awesome... Have to love cruising around in an old truck. It's just hard to explain all the good feelings you get from it. Gonna be honest, got a chill while reading your post. Thanks for sharing.
