check those rockers on JY swaps

I had a little valve train noise. Nothing major really, sounded like every other 5.3 with some miles on it. OR SO I THOUGHT

almost half the pushrods & pushrod cups on the rockers were smoked.
I hope all that metal is in the pan & filter and not the oil pump

This was a stock motor? I've seen the same thing happen....when the wrong size pushrods were used after a cam, or if there was head work (milling, decking) done causing the PTVC to change. That or the oil galley was plugged and you didn't get oil to the rocker cover.

Were there any oil pressure issues before...and did it sound like a sewing machine?

120k according to the car fax on the vin in the pcm…but no telling if the pcm is native to the engine so anyones guess really.

bone stock as far as i can tell. stock riveted head gaskets..no obvious signs of the engine ever being apart.

ive seen it before on total sludgebuckets but this mill was pretty clean inside. i think it just sat for a long time and formed a bit of corrosion.

not really noisy for how fragged they were. i mean ls motors have some valve train noise to 'em..this one wasn't the worst i've heard.

moral of the story is check em. if it's a stock or mild cam you can do the factory two revolution check but if it's a big cam you better put each cyl. pair on the base and go through the firing order.
