Fuel sending unit with aftermarket gas gauge

I have a 1964 C10 with the stock gas tank still mounted in the cab. I took out the factory gauge cluster and replaced all of the gauges including the fuel gauge with Equus aftermarket units.

The Equus fuel gauge needs a 90 ohm sending unit and the stock sending unit in my tank is a 30 ohm.......can someone direct me to where I can find a 90 ohm sending unit that will fit in my stock gas tank. It appears the 1967 and newer trucks use the 90 ohm unit; but I dont know if the tank from my 1964 is the same as a 1967 and up tank?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Fuel sending unit with aftermarket gas gauge

There isn't a direct replacement 0-90 ohm sending unit that will fit the '60-'66 gas tank. The '67-'72 sending units are different. You will either have to rework your original sending unit yourself with a 0-90 ohm sender, or contact member Vin63 here on the forum. He builds custom sending units.

Re: Fuel sending unit with aftermarket gas gauge

I am running after market gauges too. I used a sunpro tripple guage, oil temp volt, an automeeter speedo and an automeeter fuel gauge that is 0-30 ohms.
You can try to retro your sender/pick up or see if you can get a 0-30 hm fuel gauge that matchs your eguus

Re: Fuel sending unit with aftermarket gas gauge

I do have a PM into Vin63 about a custom sending unit; but is it a possibility to get a 1967 sending unit and remove the 90 ohm electronics and reto-fit them onto my 1964 unit?

Re: Fuel sending unit with aftermarket gas gauge

Be careful of creating a short..there's a separate external ground on the earlier style sending units for a reason.
