Question on fastening of rear hardtop braket
Hey guys! I have a question on how the hard top mounting brackets are secured on the rear of the bed. What I’m not sure of, is how the lower bolt is fastened to the box side. Is there supposed to be a nut welded to the inside of the boxed area or is there a loose nut that is used??? I leaning to welding a nut to the inside of the boxed side but would like to know what is factory correct.
Thanks, Eric |

Re: Question on fastening of rear hardtop braket
What does the left side look like? I'm running into the same issue. My left side has threads on the inside of the hole. But my right side has no threads.

I believe there is a rivet nut there. Here is a link to youtube video about how to install them

Re: Question on fastening of rear hardtop braket
A lot of the times they pull out. I went to the hardware store and found an insert like what was there and welded it in

Re: Question on fastening of rear hardtop braket
Mine is the same way!! The left side has some type of insert pressed into the bedside and the right side has nothing but a hole. The insert on the left side does not have any threads now. But I might have had threads at some point??

Quote:
OEM was a nut welded back there, they usually break off at some point in their life.....
