Gauges won't light

wiring behind dash is a tangled mess. String of gauge lights not working. Some bulbs are missing will that cause them all not to work?

Re: Gauges won't light

Most automotive electrical problems can be traced back to a poor ground connection. I'd start there. Make sure that the gauges are grounded to the panel and that the panel is grounded to the dashboard, etc.

Re: Gauges won't light

Turn the light switch knob all the way counter clockwise and see if maybe the dimmer is down. Sometimes if you wiggle it or turn it back and forth they will light. It could just be the light switch. If a bulb is missing it won't effect the others but you might want to try getting some new bulbs and make sure they are ok. A test light would help.

When I was working on my gauges, the dash lights were connected with a grey wire. It went into a quick disconnect. I don't remember if the wire was the same grey from the disconnect to the light switch. You will just have to trace it down.

A good test light will tell you if you are getting the 12v to the lights.
