S10 Swap Questions
After finding out how much it would cost to rebuild the 4.3L V6 I have decided to swap another 4.8L into it too. So how much of my exist systems can I reuse?
Can I make an adapter plate or just bolt the 4.3L's existing acc drive to the 4.8L block is I use an earlier engine? If I decided to use an aftermarket efi system like a Professional Products throttle body will my existing fuel system work? [Motor will be all stock] I just put a new pump in the tank. I know I can use the 700R4 in it if I upgrade it to V8 status and the stock rearend should be fine since I wont be racing with it either.

You can't bolt any of the 4.3 accessory drive to the 4.8, all that stuff was built on the old sbc pattern and won't fit.
IF you were to go with the factory efi, depending, what year the s10 engine stuff was from, you probably won't be able to reuse any fuel system stuff, unless you happen to already have a high volume pump capable of supplying ~58psi+ of pressure . Most of the s10's I can think of ran the early tbi which was low pressure, or the poppet-injector style which still wouldn't move enough fuel. As for the 4150 "carb-style" throttle body, you'd have to then run a carb manifold etc, as well as the entire aftermarket EFI system. I really don't see an advantage if your just looking to put a new motor in a daily-driven vehicle, as your introducing more-expensive aftermarket parts. Parts-store availability and plentiful supply keep prices low in comparison to the aftermarket EFI gear. IMO unless you already had all that stuff and the block lying around, your better off just finding a mostly-complete takeout engine and swapping it in as an assembly. If you consider that, its not a big extra jump in logic and effort to go ahead and get an o/d tranny at the same time. I don't know what "v8 status" is (kinda sounds like 3/4 race cam...) The "LS" year 4l60es will hold up to the type of use your describing, with a large increase in precision/firmness of lockup and shifts with the computer control and additional strength from the revisions over the years.

The difference between a V6 and V8 700R4 is the number of clutch plates and friction materials, more springs, a different band etc.
