Best thing- thank you Dear sweet Jesus there aren't any electronic Nannies on the old ones. My '09 makes me wanna rip my hair out about once a week, and is USELESS in snow. My '87 just does what I tell it to do. Been driving a new '15 for a few days as a loaner, glad I didn't buy one. Throttle pedal may as well be stuck in a bucket of oatmeal for all the responsiveness it has. Oh, and if I find out who came up with the bonger through the stereo, Im'a punch him in the face. WOW, does that suck.

Chip, I hate to break the news to you since we are friends and all, but the dinger plays through the radio in your '09 too (from the factory). Maybe even your S10. It's a conspiracy!

Ha, the '09 was what I was referencing. Wait till you have 1,360 watts hooked to it. Gettin' tired of that damn bonger, lemme tell ya!

best thing I have found is they are cheap dependable and are able to take a beating.. finally people are starting to recognize them as classics too and are appreciating them more

Re: Best thing about 1973 to1987 gm full size trucks
I like the cheap and huge amount of parts available, and the exceptional year to year interchange possible. I think they look good (especially compared to the 88-98). They're really easy to work on, and lots of custom changes are possible. My 77 is a frankentruck after me having worked on it for 20 years. They can be worked like trucks too.
Today's trucks sure are nice, and are very sophisticated, but they seem more like a caddy to me then the dump truck I really need. Oh, and one last thing. Our trucks are the last generation where " fixing it by the side of the road is actually possible". That's important to me when you're out camping in nowhere's ville.

What I liked the most - My last short box had a 78 chevy chassis, 1985 chevy cab, 87 suburban doors, dashpad, buckets/console/ steering column. talk about compatability! then the frame rotted and it was sold at a fraction of what i had in it. The 1984 is clean and this week is getting the lq9 installed.
