GMC not chevrolet
I've just found my chassis plate amongst some spare parts. It says General motors truck manufactured by General Motors corporation Pontiac Michigan USA. Can any info be gained from the serial number?

yoshi, you are full of surprises!
There surely can't be that much difference, right?

Re: GMC not chevrolet
Does the plate look like this one that I borrowed from the Classic Parts website?
Or this one that I also borrowed from that website?

Re: GMC not chevrolet
That would mean that at least the plate came off a GMC
Does the front cross member on the frame look like this one That is a GMC frame . The front cross member on this truck (in front of the Jag suspension cross member) is Chevrolet.

Re: GMC not chevrolet
I'm slowly finding out that there are many differences besides the frame. Rad. support, front fenders and hood are specific to GMC and don't interchange with Chevrolet. I'm sure there are more that I don't know about yet. Rick

Re: GMC not chevrolet
Most of the Chevy vs GMC nose issues can be circumnavigated with a bit of thinking.
The main issue is the front cossmember under the radiator support and the radiator support. That and the tops of the radiator supports are totally different but I think a guy could swap pieces around if he had both core supports handy to make it work which ever way he wanted to. Chevy nose on GMC frame or GMC nose on Chevy frame. 47/53 the fenders are the same except that the GMC fenders have the round park light under the headlight. 54 Chevy fenders have the round cut out for the grill rather than the square cut out. This is a 54 Chevy Fender. This is a 54 GMC fender Yoshi, do you have photos of the sheet metal for the nose? The hood, fenders, grill and hood support ? With photos of those we can figure out what it is supposed to be and go from there. I don't remember off hand about how you came into possession of the truck as to who sold it to you or where it went to where you are from. No do I remember how complete or not complete it was when you bought it. Before it gets more confusing lets see what you have to work with before we go on.

Re: GMC not chevrolet
Pretty sure they are Chevy fenders but that don't mean they were ordered correctly!

Re: GMC not chevrolet
Looking at all the evidence the only part that is GMC is the chassis plate

Re: GMC not chevrolet
Someone more knowledgeable than me will hopefully correct me if Im wrong but I'm not sure that Chevy fenders will work with a gmc hood. Rick
