I am starting to work on my old truck after many years of it resting ..My question is I think i left the wrong xmember in it ,,,????? I want to use a Tremec 5-6 speed trans ......Can I leave this on in or do I need to remove it...?? I left it in along time ago cause it looked soo structural.....does the manual mount behind it ? Re: Wrong trans x member ?

If you're talking about the crossmember that the manual tranny bellhousing rest on ...

To use a stock bell and a 3 or 4 speed trans, this crossmember can be left in and used without a rear tranny mounted crossmember.

For a tranny as long and heavy as a T56, remove it and run a rear trans mounted crossmember.

If you run the T56, you might also need to run the high hump floor pan section. Seems some people can get one under a low hump floor, but mine in my 66 C10 would not fit.

Re: Wrong trans x member ?

With a Tremec TKO500 or 600, I would remove the bellhousing crossmember, and install a trans crossmember under the rear of the trans. You can then also use a typical aluminum bellhousing and normal starter.
