Re: The tear down has begun ........
Now I have to get up to the Portland area to pick up the frame and bring it back to California. I will get the frame, engine and running gear into place and return it to Oregon where my brother in laws will get the body repaired and painted. That's the plan

Awesome! I remember when I started, your pictures are almost identical to mine back in 1997 for me.
What's your plan with the chassis? Paint, or powder coat?

Re: The tear down has begun ........
I have to get the chassis back home to take out the engine and transmission. I have to fit the Cummins and Allison in the frame. Mount a np205 divorced transfer-case, install springs, mount the dana 60 front and 14 bolt rear and have drive lines made. Then uninstall everything down to the frame, sandblast the frame and have it painted or powder-coated. My neighbor has a powder coat shop, I wonder what he will charge ? I have to pick up this 72 suburban tub here in town for mock up and to cut out some floor panels for my burb.

Re: The tear down has begun ........
As far as color, I am leaning towards 503 light green ! The wife wants turquoise or some similar color. Trying to find a color that doesn't make the burb to HUGE if you know what I mean ? Chris, you have the nicest looking burb on the planet and I am seriously considering 503 light green please don't be offended if I pick that color.

Thank you for the complement! I think the 503 light green with white top is a classic color for the 67/72 trucks, and would make a perfect choice for your Suburban project for sure. Regarding your frame... Personally I would go with a durable paint, instead of the powder coating. Since the frame is bound to get scrapes, and chips from installation of parts, jack stands, and off road hazards. Painting I think will allow you to easily touch up blemishes, where as with PC I have seen where it chips it is tough to touch up because of the hardness of the material. Plus when you get it back, you are gonna have to spend time chasing out the PC from threaded holes.

Re: The tear down has begun ........
The frame, gas tank and interior arrived today. Looks like I have some work to do. Stacked on top of the frame is a powder coated 1971 k20 truck frame that my brother picked up from a board member up north.

Re: The tear down has begun ........
Hey Leon
Are you thinking about putting seats in the rear of your truck? I have a rear A/C setup as well but have possibly been thinking about installing a curtain that could be pulled across behind the seats and not installing a rear unit since I will have no rear seating. John

Hi John, No, I'm not going to install rear seats in mine. The curtain would make a big difference as it would be more like cooling a pickup cab. LockDoc

Re: The tear down has begun ........
I love to see a/c units in these, I did not think it was really needed until this past Summer and it got really hot in mines with all that glass and leather seats. Btw any green along with white will look killer on these burbs.
Good job. |
