Headlight mounting rings
I went to pull my headlights this morning to swap them for Jeep JK headlights, and on the side I touched the ring that holds the lens to the core support came apart. The tabs that appear to have been spot welded to the rings came off.
Item 2 on the round headlight here: http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cc/full.aspx?Page=192 Are the LMC ones any good? Another option is to try to tack it back together, but blowing holes wouldn't be a big surprise (I have a mig, no tig here).

Re: Headlight mounting rings
AutoZone has the rectangle ones. They might have the round ones.

Re: Headlight mounting rings
Turns out both of them have problems. I couldn't find any at my local Autozone. Any suggestions on which ones to buy?
Does anyone know if the earlier (67-72, or even before) retainers are the same?

Re: Headlight mounting rings
I broke a couple of tabs on mine too. I have a tig welder so I just fused them back on. Any chance you know anyone with a tig? I always hate buying that aftermarket stuff. Most times it's no better than the broken part you are replacing.

Re: Headlight mounting rings
Are they stainless rather than chromed mild? I do have a couple friends with TIGs, although the close one isn't so good at it (not that I am either). What did you do, autogenous or did you use some tiny filler rod?

Re: Headlight mounting rings
The LMC ones are good. I bought a set and am happy with them. Get the screws too.
Just search whatever local auto part stores you have for Dorman # 42408 |

Re: Headlight mounting rings
Are the Dorman ones comparable to the LMC ones? If so I'll probably buy them locally rather than paying shipping.

Re: Headlight mounting rings
They're stainless. No filler needed, just zap it for a second. Haven't had a problem since I fixed mine.

Re: Headlight mounting rings
I'm thinking I might be able to get away with drilling a small hole and then tacking it with the MIG. If that doesn't work I'll likely buy some repros, it's cheaper than driving to my friend's place.
