Power setting kit feedback?
Has anybody used the kit that lets you install a 1969-87 Chevy 2WD power steering box in a 1955-59 Chevy pickup? Any feed back on fitment or other things it affects?

Hello 1-ton of fun. I got a kit for my 55.2. One thing I didn't like in the kit was the 1/2'' spacers. They just seemed too small and offered no frame support. I ended up using 1/2'' bar stock as spacers with a plate inside of frame for extra support. As for affecting other things its a chain reaction. There are a bunch of things that have to be looked at like the tie rod, column, U-joints, pump, hoses, what kind of brackets for the pump and pulleys. I used a 79 box and I do like the power steering. I might be able to answer some questions and if not there are more builders who have used these kits. Some like the box up front and some don't. I'm OK with it. Good luck.

I don't recommend that kit. I had it but removed it for a better suspension. If you really want to keep the straight axle I think the kit that mounts a p/s box in the original position is a better alternative due to the fact that the drag link remains the original length.

Have you thought about something like this setup. we just did this to a 47 1 ton a short time ago and they really like the way it handles. Turns lock to lock on the stock axle. Same as on 58 to 67 chevy and 67 to 81 corvette

We made the kit here using 67 C10 assist cylinder and mounting parts and a corvette control valve. The drag link portion I made on my lathe and I used a Jeep rod end for the front joint. Its steers very well, the people I built the truck for love it, the wife drives it several days a week, Its not one finger steering but a very good assist, she doesn't have any problems and its a 1 ton. I think it drives very well and it runs 65 with no wander or twitching, stays in the lane and you don't have over steer to keep it in the lane. I'd use it again as an alternative for those wanting the straight axle but adding P/S but don't want the Saginaw box and its issues or don't trust a rack on the beam. Another nice thing is it looks almost like it belongs there, more period correct which was what we were trying to do.
