Having some steering issues on my K20 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Ive been tinkering with my K20 since I got it, trying to get bugs worked out figure out why the cut the tape to all the wires from the fuse block etc etc. I noticed that when I drive it turns all the way left, but only maybe one turn tp the right. The previous owner converted it to power steering, and not the CaptainFab way lol. But this is what I found, looks llike a tie rod i think is hitting on the leaf springs when i turn right. Im wondering if it isnt a pitman arm issue, or what. Any help is appreciated, just not sure whats going on or what t do. thanks

I take it that the frt end is the org knuckle joint frt end. you will have to shorten the steering arm that comes off the king pin area

As Ron said, the steering arm needs to be shortened.....and by a qualified welder I may add. That is not something that you want to fail.

that one was on there when I got it. it worked for 20 years and there was also the extra weight of the detroit on that frt end

I looked at 61K10 build and saw he cut it 1-3/4 inches, that should be enough right? And I'll probably be getting that adapter plate since the last owner didn't do the best job and had too much fun with a welder

that measurement that I show there worked real well on mine. you want it so that the travel of the pitman arm matches the travel of the steering arm and shortening the steering arm gives you that

as ron said, as he did this mod way before me (thanks for the info ron) and ron i did plate my steering arm like yours top and bottom.

dt--looks like the clamp is hitting the spring perch, rotate it some. this should get you equal steering from side to side, just won't go all the way to the stops.

Here's one that I snapped the other night, leans to one side since the PO put an old car tire on the front. I'll have more once it warms up here this week
