Rare? fewer than 1000 made?
I saw this posting for a 1972 Suburban that states it is rare and fewer than 1000 were made. I'm a blazer guy but it seems to me that there were far more than 1000 made. Is this correct.

Yes it is correct, According to the production numbers there were 993 1/2 ton 4X4 suburbans with barn doors built and 2145 built with tailgates.

Look at the numbers for the C20 and K20 Suburbans, even less. If 900 of the 993 still exist, that is not rare. Un common maybe to see but not rare. Rare would be if there were 5 out of the 993 still in existence. Nice looking Suburban regardless. Take care, Tom

That is a nice burb and if I had one, I'd want it to have barn doors and be a 4x4. That one sits a bit high for me but I"m sure plenty of other people will love it.

Yes, it is a very nice looking burb. That's why it caught my eye and made me wonder about the production numbers.

My 2 cents...... Less than 1000 would make it rare. But rare doesn't make it valueable. Also, I had a friend who told me he liked my Surburban with the tailgate because you "can't have a tailgate party with barn doors" LOL......

I'm sure the total of ALL Suburbans made in 72 is a pretty large number. I've never really gotten in to the numbers game in our trucks.

1972 Production breakdown
Suburban Total 27302 K series (K10/K20 combined) 4520 Lowest production: K20 barn door 503 Truck Total 521270 K series (K10/K20 combined) 47722 Lowest production: K10 8ft step side 407 (not counting chassis and cowl which was only 127) The accepted number of potential survivors by most registries is 10%. I would expect trucks to be less and 4x4 even fewer due to conditions they were being exposed to (mud/salt). I never realized how many more SWB K10 were made compared to K10/K20 suburbans (7805 vs 4520). I wonder if any of the 8 1967 K20 panel trucks survived and why there were no K10 suburbans listed in 70 |

I'm pretty sure a couple of those panels have shown up on the board. I don't remember if they were member owned or someone just snapped pics of them. Rare but probably not that desirable to most folks. Maybe someday?
