Aftermarket air conditioning
Hi all, Have any of you members ever installed aftermarket air conditioning in a 70's era square body non factory air truck? Also if anybody has whats the price for completed install. Thanks all.

I'm in the process of installing Vintage Air in my 77 myself. So i'm in it for parts only. Kit was $1300.00.

Call around all the shops around you and get quotes,I'm guessing installed and charged 500 to 800 probably.

I'd do some research on companies that make aftermarket A/C for your truck. Then call those manufacturers to see if they can recommend an installer in your area.
Having installed Vintage Air in-dash systems in a 69 pickup and 55 Chevy car, I can tell you it's not a trivial task. So find someone who knows what they're doing.

I put the Vintage Air kit in my truck about a year and a half ago. I took it to an authorized dealer I found on their website. Seems like there was only 1 authorized dealer in my area. The quote to put it in was about $1,500 and the quote to buy the kit was no cheaper than I could it buy it for myself directly from Vintage Air.
As much as I didn't feel like messing with the install, that was more than I was willing to spend. I ended up installing it myself. I have a few pics of the install in my build thread. It wasn't too bad to install. Just take your time and follow the instructions. |

Way to go! And if you're like me, you know it was done right. I eventually went so far as to buy a decent quality Robinair vacuum pump and gauges for use on the second system. Turns out I've been able to get a lot of use out of them over the years.

Yep. I did take the opportunity to buy some new tools. New gauges, vacuum pump and a hose crimping tool.
