There's a lot of people that don't run a booster at all. It's not like you won't have brakes, it just requires more effort to apply. I don't think there's anything wrong with a vacuum pump. If you bought a quality one, it has every bit a chance at longevity as your power steering or water pump. I'm going to do some research on any correlation between 260/290hp crates and vacuum.
