what would you do with this 72?
72 3/4 ton long bed. Factory big block truck and th400. Motor is gone, all accessories and tranny still there.the chassis is still all complete as well as brake system.
69 grill on it,and replacement fender. No tailgate. Rotted rockers, but very nice floor, came from a 1-owner Never been in accident only a passenger fender bender. Bed is gorgeous. I have a 68 Shortbed, 67 k10, and 82 c10 short bed that still need stuff. Should I part this?

That truck appears to be in better shape than most of the trucks I've seen lately, I'd build it.

Part it out and use the cash for the other trucks.

Wow cdowns, did you specifically come here to act like a jerk? It's really not difficult to contribute positively without being demeaning and critical of someone else's financial position.
Op: how long do you think this truck will sit around before you have time to dedicate to it? Stashing vehicles to work on later isn't an issue if it's out of the elements but rust doesn't take a day off. |

When I first joined this forum "cdowns" was very sarcastic with me, I forget what the topic was. I think he's probably just some old grumpy guy. LOL
He does have a point though.....it's hard to do more than 1 project at a time. Original poster: if you do part this out, may I buy a piece of the cab floor? |

Re: what would you do with this 72?
Not all of us are obsessed with short beds mind you, he's in az so rust is likely no issue. I'd hold onto it. I hate seeing trucks that need just some tlc get parted, granted this trucks not complete,it still looks like it could be a very solid foundation for something nice.

I agree with 57taskforce: I hate to see everything cut up and long wheel bases own! I wish my truck was a lwb and if something ever happens to my truck, it will be replaced with a lwb stepside.

Re: what would you do with this 72?
Here is my take on it. If you have the property and it's not a big deal to hold onto it, keep it. In another 20 years they will be hard to find in that condition. Also, if you decide to get rid of it later down the road it will only be worth more, so you really can't lose. I would only part it if you really needed the cash now.

Assuming it has a good title, if not of course part it out. A big block cab, title and frame are worth something just for that. Last edited by mechanicalman; 05-17-2015 at 04:00 AM. |

It looks to me like a great vehicle to part out. Then as others mentioned, I would invest that money into the best (truck) you've got. Any truck can be fixed up or restored...but seriously, some are best to use for parts. There are too many examples out there that will be an easier 'go' than perhaps restoring this one. My two bits & good luck! all Good Coley

Re: what would you do with this 72?
I think it would be reasonable for someone to try to save that truck. I do not think it would be reasonable to try to save that truck in a manner that makes financial sense. If you've always wanted a big block C20 and have the time and money to put into the project, then by all means build it. But make darn sure it is something you plan to hold onto for a very long time.
The fact that you have several other trucks tells me you probably need to be realistic and decide where you want to put your time and money. What is is that you really want? |

Re: what would you do with this 72?
not sure what cdowns reply was about either.
i may part this out soon after i sell the 76 lincoln mark 4 soon. it will be in the parts section, thanks guys for all opinions. with my 69 shortbed, 67 k10, 82 stepside hot rod type truck, and the 78 k20 i half restored from highschool, all of which need stuff, i dont think i will be keeping this truck. just needed the extra few opinions.

Re: what would you do with this 72?
my opinion - put the 78 k20 first. yeah, you will never sell it on barrett jackson and retire on the proceeds, but nothing can replace those kind of memories. i still have my first car, a 65 gto. when o got out of the army, it was too far gone to be worth fixing. did it anyway. why worry about how much a car is worth if you are never going to sell it?
