Roof Rack on a single cab?
Has anyone ever put some kind of roof rack on a single cab truck? I am thinking of doing it, but I'm not sure how useful the stock rain drip edge would be for mounting.

Yeah it's a good question. Honestly, I just think it would look cool. I don't have any other good reason.

Jeeps i have rode in they make wind noise and heard you lose a few mpg having it.If your looking to add lights you can just get a light bar mount from carr http://www.carr.com/light-bars.html they have them for normal lights and a led light bar now.

Those are nice light bars. You're right about the noise and MPG. I wouldn't want to make either of those worse than they are now.

If you need a spare mount for a off road tire you can get http://www.tiregate.com/bed-mount-series/

Re: Roof Rack on a single cab?
Yeah I'm bordering on a bad idea here but I think it could be pulled off. What I want is like the old Con Ferr racks you could get for Jeeps and Landcruisers?
Old Con Ferr on a Landcruiser... I want an 80's looking version of this... I actually considered getting one of these rear hitch cargo baskets and modding it to be a rooftop basket... |

Re: Roof Rack on a single cab?
Was thinking of building one like this to carry my spare since it won't fit under the bed. I have a regular cab long wheel base. I would have mine about 2/3 of the way over the cab and the balance over the front of the bed.

Re: Roof Rack on a single cab?
I have a few and would sell one or there is one on Craigslist in Tucson right now. I'd be 100 cheaper. Matt

Re: Roof Rack on a single cab?
Here's on that was home made for a 60-66 Suburban. As you pointed out, I'm not sure how reliable the rain gutters would be. They are screwed on and might not hold much weight. You could cut down a Suburban or wagon rack to fit but how would it look?

Re: Roof Rack on a single cab?
I love the Ford and the Burb. Maybe my idea isn't so ill conceived? My truck is a step side with a roll bar. I'm thinking, I could get one of those Carr light bars and bridge a rack between my roll bar and the Carr light bar.

Re: Roof Rack on a single cab?
You can mount lights to the con-ferr rack if you can find the light mounts. I have some quick n ez mounts too. The con-ferr mounts are wider and distribute the weight better but gutters are tough I mount roof tents on mine. The Carr light bar is newer style of the old dick cepek light bar. There usually a few on eBay but they're not wide enough for my van. Matt
