PerTonix 1164
Wondering if anyone has installed a PerTonix 1164 conversion kit? I have a 62 Gmc with a 305D V6. Just wondering if I'm gonna have to pull the distributor or not.
Thank you |

Re: PerTonix 1164
When I did my Pertronix II on my 6cyl (since been replaced with a big block), I did not have to remove the distributor. All work is hidden under the distributor cap and was maybe a 15min job. I had good instructions and was a nice upgrade.
I don't imagine the GMC V6 would be much different to do.

Re: PerTonix 1164
I was thinking about it for our v6 trucks but have not tried it yet. I was also thinking about HEI but Pertronix is a lot cheaper.

Re: PerTonix 1164
No, you will not have to remove the dizzy. Pull the cap and rotor...2 screws will be holding the points and plate down(don't forget to take the ground wire off the coil)...pull the points out...set the pertronix in...bolt it down...one wire will go to the positive side of the coil and one to the negative. There should be some little ring washer thingy deal that goes down the dizzy shaft next to the pertronix box...once that's on, put yer rotor back on and cap and fire it up see how she runs and slap a 4 barrel on there. lol I did it to mine. Made a Huge difference. I'm not even using an hei and she responds wonderfully...these were 4.250 bore engines...they love the fuel.

Re: PerTonix 1164
Ok so I put this perTronix 1164 in and won't start. I bought the big 40,000 volt coil still won't start. I tried adjusting the gap on the pertronix still won't start. I tried the spark plug against a ground and I'm just getting a little blue spark and that's it. Is their something I'm missing here???????

Is the little sleeve with the magnets upside-down? I made that mistake with mine. I flipped it over and it fired right up.

Re: PerTonix 1164
If your not getting a full 12 volts to the coil it won't work properly either.
