Re: my 1965 C10
i finally installed my amp in the truck. its a 4 channel Monolithic. for those that don't know Monolithic Sound Inc. is one of the most sought after old school amps by audiophiles and collectors. these are incredibly rare and quite expensive but the sound quality is better than anything car audio i have ever heard. so ever since the first time Ive listened to one in 1989 i have wanted a system with those amps. i also installed a 5 farad cap made by C.A.P. these are well known in the audiophile world also i rewired with new Audio Quest high end speaker wire. it took me a day and a half to complete but i wanted no wires to show once the seat was installed . just wanted a clean simple look plus the would be thieves cannot see anything special and it will be overlooked.also i did not want to drill any holes to mount the pieces because it would kill me to tear up this piece of history so i used 3M gray double sided adhisive tape. the stuff is amazing.

Re: my 1965 C10
i will be installing this Monolithic monoblock amp in the future. i upgraded the power and ground wires on both amps. this amp we tested in my friends system against his new 400 watt bass amp and the 240 watt Monolithic sounded better had tighter bass and played louder and my amps are from the mid 1980`s.

Re: my 1965 C10
did some acoustic Fat Mat and some Dacron (pillow stuffing) in the doors today. made a big difference on the bass level and clarity. had to turn down the bass on the head unit to 0. it was set at +3.

Re: my 1965 C10
more upgrades to the system today. added the crossover ,swapped out the 5 farad cap for a 15 farad, also added a large relay and a small relay for the new cap. added a lot more Fat Mat at the back of the cab and painted over the primer white paint left from the big back window conversion.

Re: my 1965 C10
more upgrades to the system. took out the cheap china dash speakers and installed a 4in pair of Rainbow Audio. bought some foam cups for speakers and filled them with a little pillow stuffing for acoustics. also lined the underside of the dash with Fatmat. the system is really coming together now. it sounds great.

Re: my 1965 C10
Nice upgrades on your truck!
Are you worried at all about the Dacron (pillow stuffing) in the doors getting wet? Will it mildew if it gets wet?

today i installed my new Retro Sound head unit. it has
2 ...3.5mm input jacks 2... USB imput ports 6 pre amp outs ..front , rear, and sub Blu-Tooth and too much else to list. it sounds better than the old unit i had and plays louder too. i found some original backing knobs and modified the holes to work with the new style shaft. and bought some reproduction original knobs. turned out great.

Re: my 1965 C10
So I am super jealous of your rig. I paid close to that for my 64 that is not in nearly as good of shape and needed a new motor. If you don't mind me asking how did you get your gauge cluster out? I have tried to get mine out and she doesn't budge. I know their are screws on perimeter but that's all I can find. I you or someone wouldn't mind walking me through the process I would be grateful.

Re: my 1965 C10
You know, I have the same problem with my 64. I removed all the screws and the speedo cable, but the cluster did not want to come out. I haven't tried too hard because I didn't want to chip or break it, so am anxious to hear any suggestions too.

Re: my 1965 C10

Re: my 1965 C10
You have to remove the headlight switch, ignition switch, etc., and if your steering column is in place I believe that you will have to drop it out of the way a bit.
