Body trim
Has anyone had experience with the body trim kits for 73-80 trucks?
Good? Bad?

do a search on the topic as there is a ton to read through. Short answer- most aftermarket stuff isnt great. it's best to find OEM but hard to do.

Re: Body trim
While I appreciate your suggestion for search I was simply trying to find if there were any newer experiences with it. Most of the threads regarding the aftermarket trim for 73-80 were over a year old. Maybe I should have written my post a little better.

Re: Body trim
softballnrd27 my experience has been that there are only a few options. I looked at the LMC trim a few years back. It wasnt horrible, but not that great either. If you replace all of the trim at once the average person wouldnt notice the difference. I can tell you that finding NOS trim is expensive, and probably wont match either. I have quite a few pieces, and it doesnt match that great.

Re: Body trim
Seems like it would be possible, since the width of the trim is common along the full length.
You'd have to be able to cut stainless without getting it hot (and discoloring it) and then bend the end around (top and sides) in order to re-create the original end form. After that it would be just sliding the clips around into the correct position. K

Re: Body trim
There was a member on here that had his original trim gone thru by a chrome finish company that look better than new. I can't find the thread but I'm thinking I may have to do something similar because they don't reproduce the trim on the rear fenders of the dually. I think whatever you do follow the same process on all the trim front to back because I've never seen two sets that look like they would match.

Re: Body trim
Does your truck already have trim on it?

Re: Body trim
I used the kit from Brothers. My truck did not have trim originally so the holes were not present. I only used the double sided tape and some extra screws and it turned out pretty well. I may have to redo some of the tape because I didn't prep the surface well.

Re: Body trim
Does anybody know who manufacturers the trim that Brothers and LMC sells? I bought the whole kit from Classic Parts and it's all made by Corvex Moulding. Overall it's "okay" but there are definitely a couple of pieces I need to reorder as one is damaged and the other isn't polished like the rest of the trim.
I imagine there aren't too many manufacturers of this stuff 😊 |
