From experience with my own truck taking leaves out of the springs lowers the truck but causes it to drive terribly.

You probably have someone there (or you could do it yourself) who can rework the springs to take the arch out of them to drop the truck a bit. You could also reverse the eyes of the main leaf and rework the back perch on the front springs for clearance and get about an inch or more there.

Lower profile tires will bring it down a bit, I run 205 14 tires on the front of my truck and that helps. It also has two or three leaves removed but there is only about 1 inch clearance between the frame and the piece that clamps on top of the spring by the u bolts that used to have the bumpers on it.

What happens when you take leaves out of the springs.

You could get a dropped axle from Sids http://www.droppedaxles.com/ You probably would have about 500 in it with axle, core charge, shipping and new king pins but it would drop the truck down and be totally safe and have the same ride you have now.

48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six.
71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

I agree. Lowering a truck by removing springs leads to problems when hitting a dip in the road usually causing a sharp swerve when it hits the bump. The problem is the angle in the steering arm. If you could shorten or drop the arm to keep it in line with the axle it may work out but I think the drop axle would be the correct way but not the cheap way. It boils down to how much is safety worth to you.

I removed already three leaf springs in the front of my other 53 truck and is a kind of risky to drive it.
