New, need suggestion

I just bought a '66 SWB fleet w/stock 283 and turbo 350. I will be needing to do floor and rocker repairs and bed rebuilding (no wood left) and wanted to ask "those in the know" what sources should I contact to obtain catalogs for parts? I have no clue who would be my best balance between quality and pricing? I'd kinda like to consider a full floorpan, as my tunnel has been butchered too, but I'm not finding that on the internet, though I'm sure it's out there.
I have been lurking a week or two and am very impressed with the gracious attitudes I see on here and helpful knowledge, I've viewed some other forums for differing things and have noted quite the contrary. I thank you in advance for advice regarding suppliers/vendors and apologize if I missed a nice thread with that info already contained. Banjo.

Re: New, need suggestion

Welcome,
Top Banana has sheetmetal (no full floor pans available to my knowledge from anyone) http://www.topbananaparts.com/
LMC Truck is who I use for most of my specific parts but there's plenty of others.
Brothers truck
Early Classic
Everyone has their favorite..
for non-specific parts I use Rockauto
good luck with the build.

Welcome Banjo!

I've also used Top Banana for my sheetmetal, Early Classic for my brakes and suspension and Classic for miscellaneous parts and have been happy with all of them.

There's a wealth of information here!

Re: New, need suggestion

Welcome Banjo,

Heard good things about Mar-K for sheet metal and bed wood kits. Haven't used them yet...

LMC has some pretty good info in their catalogs, go online and request a catalog and they send new ones a few times a year.

CPP for suspension/brake parts

Champion Radiators- Really like the one I just purchased... did find out I could have gotten it cheaper buying through ebay.

If your adding PS, PB or changing out the rear, you'll want to look up CaptainFab on this site. Products are awesome and a world of knowledge on our old trucks.

Check out the FAQ's for great info that's been documented

How about some pics fo your truck?

Sense they have not yet been mentioned. I would get the bed parts from Mar-K. Unless you are looking for a more exotic wood.

My mouth is now shaped like my shoe. I guess I should read what others post more carefully.

Welcome to the forum

For your floor patch panels not offered in the aftermarket, you might check the '60-'66 classifieds here on the forum for someone parting out a truck that may have the pieces you need.

Re: New, need suggestion

Sorry I'm not tech savvy and it flipped my picture when I uploaded it. 66 fleet swb with big back window. Newer tilt column added, stock 4 wheel manual drums, someone added a turbo 350 and I haven't looked closely enough yet to determine if it were original 3 on tree or powerglide. Someone gouged out a significant hole in trans tunnel, so I'm guessing was orig 3 on tree and some one tried 3 in floor and must've went from that to turbo 350 auto. And likely why the later model Gmc tilt column and steering wheel. Stock bench, gauges and fawn interior. Believe truck to be orig red with white cab know it's been repainted at least once.
Was parked by my buddy about 6 years ago because it kept trying to die and not restart. The stock 283 2 barrel was rebuilt years ago by someone he hired and so was the turbo 350. however the turbo 350 wasn't performing well enough and he felt it has issues, so when the motor got unreliable, he just parked under a carport and the pic is day it came off rollback into my yard. Given he is no mechanic and has to hire most work done, the issues could be as simple as low on trans fluid or vacuum hose fell off to engine needing good tune up or dying fuel pump or clogged fuel tank sending unit or fuel line. We shall see. Could be bad components in the hei installed or bad ignition switch.
Needs rockers and pans and bed addressed and I believe the rest I can work with after I get it running, one piece at a time like Johnny cash sang about!

Re: New, need suggestion

Looks like you have plenty of potential there! You'll get plenty of practice drilling out spot welds when you tackle those rockers and floor. I had to that on my 64 along with kick panels and lower front fenders.

I think one piece at a time is how a lot of us have to do it. :-)
