there were only a few adjustments necessary to make sure that the carb would function properly....
1. the idle mixture adjustment screws were put in at the exact same position as when they were removed.... you do this by first counting the number of turns it takes to screw them all the way in.... then you take them out.... and when you put them back in place, just screw then all the way in, and back out the appropriate number of turns..... 2. the float height had to be adjusted in two different directions... the instructions provided diagrams and a little paper ruler to measure all the adjustments... 3. the pump rod adjustment (for the throttle linkage) also needed to be adjusted/set properly... and again, the instructions had good diagrams, and the paper ruler was helpful.... the remainder of the adjustments to the carb listed in the instructions were for a carb with an automatic choke assembly, which my carb did not have.... to reassembly my carb to the truck manifold, i just put the carb back in place in reverse order..... 1. put in the two bolts in the manifold... 2. screwed in the fuel line... 3. hooked up the throttle linkage, making sure the clip and washer were back in the correct position 4. hooked up the spring that keeps the throttle linkage taught 5. hooked up the manual choke cable..... when i hooked this up, i first adjusted the knob on the dash to have a fully closed choke.... thus, the cable looks like this: (little to no wire showing at its end)

then, i hooked up the choke cable, making sure that the choke flap was totally closed on the top surface of the carb....
and i tighted down the cable to secure it in place....

6. i reassembled the air cleaner....
then, i started her up, and WAAAALAAAA!!! it runs awesome.... the only problem i had was a slight drip from the fuel line, which was easily fixed with a small tightening.... i also had to adjust the idle speed because it was really screwed up from before (when the carb was really running poorly).... i took her out for a brief drive.... runs great.... had to fill the tires with air.... but here she is.... sittin perty in the sun!

ONE MORE THING.....
i must credit FINE69 (mike) for several things.... first, he indicated that i would have to do this soon (he was right).... second, he set the idle mixture screws at the ohio meet (and he set them by ear), which is a really cool thing.... cause it STILL runs very well third, he unknowingly donated a pink rag to my project because this rag traveled from his house (in Ohio at the meet), to my house (when i lived in West Lafayette, IN), all while riding on my truck frame under the hood next to the engine! thanks for the rag, mike! and thanks to everyone else for their help and encouragement! this board is the best!!! ciao!  jewels.

oh - one other thing.... .
there was a recent thread i posted about starting the engine, and how exactly i should prep the engine before i start it..... (clicky) for thread and as it turns out, i just bolted it on, and it started right up.... it took very few pumps to get it prepped for start.... in fact, it started easier than if it were freezin cold outside.... thanks everyone! jewels.

Jewels, Are those 6-lug wheels on your '68? What size wheel and tire are you running? I have a set of (4) 10 x 15, 6-lug turbines that I was thinking about putting on my '67 stepside. I installed power steering and was wondering how a 10-inch wheel with a 275 or wider is going to behave on the front. Probably just like a Winston Cup car...LOL! I like the turbines when they are painted the same color as the body.

yes, those are 6-lugs.... they are aluminum slots (large slots).... they came with the truck when i bought it..... i am running 255-60-15's, if i remember correctly..... i think the tires give the truck a really nice stance, but i wish they would fill the wheel wells a bit more..... painting the turbines the same color was the idea of the guy who helped me paint my truck.... at first i thought it looked like a clown vehicle.... but they have grown on me.... i still prefer stock.... jewels.

I believe that "stupid little white thing in the kit" is used slide the accelerator pump diaphragm over the plunger body. I struggled with a q-jet accelerator pump on a recent rebuild and it was afterwards that I realized how that cone shaped white thing could have helped.

I gotta admit, this was a pretty impressive thread. I've rebuilt one carb in my lifetime and for the second one, I talked a buddy into rebuilding it for me.

OK, Jewels, time to quit playing in the sandbox and move on up to a Quadrajet. If you can learn to change numbered plungers/jets, etc and tune one of them, you'll be the envy of a lot of members!
You've got the b---s, uh.....nerve....so get an intake and a Quad from a '84 or so 350 without the computer connection and with an automatic choke and make some real improvements.
