Headlight switch knob

The headlight switch knob on my '73 broke off, leaving only a threaded metal post to turn the headlights on/off. I can live with it, but it would be nice to have it back how it should be. I'd rather not replace the entire switch assembly if I don't need to. When I went to my local auto parts store they couldn't help.

Re: Headlight switch knob

It's easy to replace the entire shaft/knob. Just reach under the dash and locate the flat bottom side of you headlight switch. There'll be a wiggly type button on it. Just push in the button, then pull out the shaft (while still holding in the button). To insert a new shaft, just push it back in. Just be aware, that pulling out the shaft will also turn on your lights, so either be quick or disconnect the battery. If you can't locate a shaft/knob, PM me and I can send you one (probably won't match yours but will work just the same)

Re: Headlight switch knob

Also 73-74 used a slighly longer shaft on the knob to clear the bolt that secures the switch to the dash if you don't have the original gauge bezel you can use the shorter ones as long as you use the later flat bolt on the dash. I believe classic industries carries the original style ones though
