Fuel Filter
Howdie,
Anyone able to identify this fuel filter? I'd like to order a replacement without pulling it off the truck first? I'm also open to suggestions for different models for 1971 c10 custom with a god wrench 350 and edelbrock 4 barrel. Best & thanks! Kelley |

Re: Fuel Filter
That is just a good type glass filter that is the kind your Edelbrock needs.

Re: Fuel Filter
It's an aftermarket filter. I would go to your favorite auto parts store and buy whatever aftermarket filter you like, as long as it fits the fuel hose on your truck.

Re: Fuel Filter
Those screw apart and you can clean the filter. You can also buy the replacement white plastic filter. I've seen them at Autozone.

Re: Fuel Filter
I've heard some talk on the forums about glass filters catching fire/being particularly dangerous? Is this the type everyone is talking about... ?

Re: Fuel Filter
It's not as dangerous as the clear plastic ones that could melt in a carb fire and burst --releasing even more gas.

Re: Fuel Filter
the filter is slightly dangerous but the rubber lazy mans hose is dangerous at the top of the list

Re: Fuel Filter
You can buy the filter cartridges (not the whole glass assembly but just the filter inserts) at Oreillys in a 3 pack
Here is the info for the original filter like you have; (about $15) but you'll still need to find the SKU for the three pack of inserts; (about $9) but they are on a peg next to the filters at my Oreilly's Mr. Gasket - Clearview Fuel Filter Line: MRG | Part # 9748 1 year limited warranty UPC: 84041097489 Push-On for 3/8 Inch Hose Diameter (In): 3/8 Inch Detailed Description Visually check the condition of your fuel! Re: Fuel Filter
I was given one when I needed it.
It clogged on me when I was dropping the boat in the water from the boat ramp. I opened it up and accidentally dropped the glass, and was stuck without fuel flowing! Just my experience, always have a (backup plan) spare filter assembly. Bill

Re: Fuel Filter
I'd go with an all metal filter and keep rubber hose lengths to an extreme limit.
Replace filters at regular intervals. That's my plan anyway! |

Re: Fuel Filter
The glass tube with replacable filters used to be sold for VW dune buggies under the label SCAT. The filter element was a sintered Bakelite or Micarta or something. Some of the early ones also had a donut magnet to trap rust and metal particles. Then they changed hands and went to the import plastic elements that you can only get now. The plastic filters soften and distort under the ether or ethanol additives in the current fuel. They can clog up prematurely, or distort and let unfiltered fuel pass.
I prefer the steel can type GF-15, now.
