Best lsx mounts/kit for 1966 with 84 cross member
New guy checking in and needing info. First of all thank all of you for sharing all the valuable info i have found on this site. I Found this site looking for a power steering adapter and got to know the Captain. Since then i have decided on a front cross member swap, power disc brake conversion, rear disc conversion, 5.3 swap and on and on.. I'd like to know if anyone using the complete CPP LS swap kit in a 66 with a newer crossmember (84 in this case). Just wondering if the mounting points are the same, cutting/trimming required.
Thanks |

Re: Best lsx mounts/kit for 1966 with 84 cross member
The newer crossmember doesn't really look or act any different than the old one. When you swap them out, most of the differences are on the "outer" portion, where you mount the A-arms, brakes etc.
You'll just need to make sure that you order swap mounts for the year of the donor/swap, not the '66. The '66 had the "perch" mounts, and I can't remember if they switched over the clamshell mounts or not by 84. In terms of fitment tho, your engine will fit the same as pretty much any other member. Don't take it the wrong way, but sometimes there is no "one" answer for these entry level questions. You'll always run into things like driveshaft length, trans xmember position, exact engine setback, which will all be slightly different truck to truck. When you consider that sometimes these trucks have had 5-7+ owners before, and lord knows what type of changes...you see how speculation until we know for sure. Since your newer here, I'd also suggest taking a look at some of the site resources. You might find your answer (or answers you didn't even know you needed yet!) by doing so..sometimes faster than we can get back to you. 3 tips for success; 1. Its definitely worth looking at the "what ya got" thread and the
other FAQ and stickies at the top of this section. 2. Try "search this forum" button on the upper right side of each section. It'll give you more refined results than just the google- powered search at the top. 3. Check out the builds section in the 60-66 area. You can view diary-style threads of complete builds, and builds in progress. Lots of subtle detailed info ends up in those threads, and its the REALLY good stuff that often doesn't make it into general conversation.

Re: Best lsx mounts/kit for 1966 with 84 cross member
Thanks for the pointers especially on refining my search in the forum. Ive done severals swaps from S10's with Tuned Port engines to my 67 Camaro with an LS3/T56 swap and you're absolutely right there are no two exactly the same. Ill document my build and let everyone know what worked for me as i get used to the how the forum works.
Thanks again |
