Can someone please straighten me out?

I have a 1965 C10 stepside everything is refreshed or new and I have drop spindles and shorter shocks and springs. I've had the 4 wheel alignment done several times and the truck rides awesome but it feels a little squirrelly over 70mph. Truck drives dead straight everything feels nice and tight and solid just like it should. Does anyone know the correct info to tell these guys doing the alignment for me?

Re: Can someone please straighten me out?

I replaced my steering box with the close ratio box from Brothers back a couple years ago when I did the suspension and tie rod ends.

Re: Can someone please straighten me out?

If they are setting it to the factory specs it will have very little caster in it. Go to these two threads and do some reading. I have done the caster mod and have 5 degrees in my truck. Makes a world of difference. Also what shocks are you running?

thanks for pointing me in the right direction, I appreciate that

the shocks came with the lowering kit i bought from brothers with the sway bars

they look like they are a cheap generic shock I have always thought in the back of my head that a good quality coil over gas shock will change everything for the better

I don't think the alignment guy knew what the factory settings were because his machine didn't go back that far so maybe he just got everything straight and added some camber for fun?

Re: Can someone please straighten me out?

It may only have a degree or two in it. More does a lot for it. When I went from the kit KYB's to the Bell techs they were a huge improvement.

Re: Can someone please straighten me out?

Most shops give you a report of what they set the camber/caster/toe settings to when they hand you your receipt.

this is what I've got

is it as easy as taking it back to the alignment shop and asking them to add some camber?

I started that Caster Mod this morning. Judging from what you have I will need it.

Re: Can someone please straighten me out?

I cant tell by the picture if those are poly tires but if they are they are pretty good at following the grooves on concrete highways!! Just a thought

BF Goodrich radials

i see Brothers offers upper and lower tubular control arms that allow for extra caster very pricey !!!

i have lowered springs and drop spindles with stock control arms
the tech was able to give me a huge change in the way it handles highway speeds by adding some caster alone to what i had.

I have a little play in my idler arm too so I ordered a new one from summit when it arrives i will take it back and get it adjusted a little more when he does i will get him to give me another print out

even with the play in the idler the truck has a totally different manner at speed now for the better!

Re: Can someone please straighten me out?

i also added a new set of monroe gas shocks for all 4 corners. the 2 back shocks were blown out so we moved the mounting location up to give it more room to travel.

Re: Can someone please straighten me out?

now the truck drives perfect at all speeds right up to 80-85 it just settled right in with almost no effort or adjustment needed. I didn't want to push it faster just to be safe but it showed no signs of wobble or shimmy or shake totally rattle free I was so happy almost got misty when i noticed driving along easy at 35-40mph i can feel and hear a rubbing noise from the front end. is that what happens when you adjust it too far? Do i need to adjust it back some lil it stops rubbing not sure what is rubbing yet haven't had time to look deeper into it. I was thing of changing the upper control arms with the tubular ones from brothers

http://www.brotherstrucks.com/prodin...=UCA7200&qty=1

good idea or no?

Re: Can someone please straighten me out?

turns out to have been 2 different issues unrelated to each other

alignment is great truck holds the road really nice now

rubbing noise was axle bearings and loose pinion bearings

had her fully rebuilt and now she is nice and tight

I have a Dana 60 with the post lock
