Which Headers ?

I am part way through installing a ZZ4 crate motor in my 59 Apache.
It has stock front suspension with Posies 3" drop front springs and I am also adding the CPP Toyota style power steering at the same time.
Everything was going ok - slow but ok !!

But, Header fitment seems a little tricky, I have a set of Patriot shorty headers which hit the steering box, as a temporary measure I have purchased a set of Speedway's Rams Horn manifolds - but there is a slight port mismatch with these.
People running this engine/exhaust combo on the Corvette forums seem happy with the way their cars run so maybe all is ok.

Anyone running a similar combo ?
Your thoughts ?

Re: Which Headers ?

Wouldn't original or even reproduction factory style exhaust manifolds with the 2 1/2 inch diameter outlet look, fit, flow, as well or better than the Speedway rams horn headers? They were good enough for the hi-performance Corvettes.

Still allowed and used in Stock drag racing classes, and for most engines with relatively mild cams they flow just about as well at normal operating RPM.

Re: Which Headers ?

The large aftermarket ram's horns aren't bad for a mild engine. You might get better port alignment with a set of 92~ish Vette factory manifolds.

Pacesetter also makes a set of shorties that will probably fit those ports better. P/n 70-1340
