5 on 5 or 5 on 4.75 lugs

I have a 66 short stepper with 350 sbc with 3 speed OD. my little motor makes about 400 hp.

I owned a 98 trans am LS1 and it was my daily driver and bracket raced it about twice a month. So I grew into modding LS stuff and there is so much more hp to get out of them.

my truck will be turning into a bracket/ street cruiser. I will be selling my 350 engine and going with a 6.0 with ls3 heads and doing a carb setup with Th400 and possibly a gear vendors OD later on.


I looking at 5 lug disk brake conversion. I know 5 on 5 is common. What do most of you guys run? I asking this because of wheel options.

Seems like there are more options for the 5 on 4.75

I switched mine to 4.75, way more wheel options in variety and size available, plus when you want to change it up way easier to sell your old set, I have a set of 5x5 Draglites I've been trying to sell but no truck guys in search, if they were 4.75 they would have sold by now.

Also my front Wilwood hubs didn't come in 5x5 so that's another option that was limited with the larger pattern.

Switch your front hubs for 91 camaro 1le disc brakes. Share same inner and outer bearings. There are threads on here about that. As for the rear end I would get rid of the drums. Get some aftermarket axles. And put on a wilwood rear dynalite kit.

The more torque you make the larger bolt patern is more desired. Top fuel still uses 5 on 5 and is pretty much a standard in the upper end racing (1000HP and above) But then too ONE SFI wheel for those guys is $1200+ and selection is VERY limited like 71 says.

Mark Williams 11" ProMod rear end is only offered in 5/8" studs and 5 or 5-1/2" bolt circle just as an example. Sooo like everything,, it's all just a matter of money.

Most of your Wilwood kits all come with multi-pattern bolt circles for the rotors and hats on both front and rear. They are typically 5 on 4.5" and 5 on 4.75" for Ford or Chevy.

Since many people use a Ford 9" rear end the pattern is typically 5 on 4.5" if the standard axles are retained. Strange and Auburn also make their axles in 5 on 4.5" pattern to meet the existing or have them custom built. Mine are Strange 4.5"

Weld Race wheels also come in the multi pattern bolt circle. 5 on 4.5" and 5 on 4.75"

I'm with you. Always played with 4th gen fbodies and got use to easy wheel selection. My truck is 5x5 on the front and still 6 lug on the back until I decide what to do. It's hard to find what you want in 5x5 pattern without going custom. Although a set of old school cragar s/s 15x4.5 and 15x10's would look cool with some bias plys.

Thanks guys for the response. That answered my question, looks like 4.75 it is.

I always run 2 sets of rims and tires for my street strip cars. My Trans am had 17x9 and 17x10.5 for the street and 15" drag lites for the track.

I like black steelies and wide whites look on my 66 for the street but I want to have a set of 15x10s and 15x4.5s for the track. I will probably run some M/T drag radials 325/50/15s out back.

not really sure what rim i will go with for the drag setup. It can wait for a while anyways.

I thought about cragar s/s for the track but might go to a modern/light type of drag rim
