A/C Heat options

What I want to know is if there is a cheaper more cost efficient way of putting air conditioning back into my truck because it originally had it, but doing it in a way that isn't going to cost 1000$-1500$ to do it. I was wondering if you could just adapt a system from a late model truck like a 96 Silverado for example if I took the 5.7 vortec out of it could I take the a/c heat system out of it and easily make it work in my 66 or possibly like out of a newer model truck that was equipped with a 5.3? Im just looking for options and to see who has done what. Any input is apreciated.

Why can't you just update the original? Check out "project 64 cheapskate" in the buil section, Alex shows how to bring the original up to modern standards.

Chevy.c10 I understand your idea, I myself have thought of buying my dad's 03 silverado 5.3 and putting engine/trans and heat/Ac into my 65 c10 long fleet. Updating it like this would make it a better daily.

Re: A/C Heat options

I would like to do that but don't know much about how to go about it, on craigslist I found the whole a/c system from a 2000 5.3 including evaporator, condenser, dryer and what not and I was thinking about picking it up but I am unsure of it yet because this would all be new to me.

I appreciate your input and that's pretty cool, but i'm looking for the system more than the vents.
