Aligning tailgate
Put them "new" box on my truck and got it all bolted together a while ago, but as the truck isn't being driven currently I never bothered to put the tailgate on until today. I put on all the hardware for it and then put the tailgate itself on, and it wouldn't close because it was hitting the bedside one the passenger side. My dad put a steel pipe in the rear stake pocket and pulled outwards so it could close. Check out the pictures and let me know if there's a way to properly align it without taking the box apart again (it's already been seam sealed). Thanks in advance.

Re: Aligning tailgate
It would appear your box was not squared properly. You can usually adjust up and down of a tailgate but not so much the side to side.
You need to check the squareness of your box. |

Re: Aligning tailgate
I have changed box sides on 73-87 pickups a few times. You have spot welds where the box sides meet the bed floor right in front of your tail gate. I usually hook a come-a-long into the two rear box pockets, and tighten until the tailgate gaps look good before welding.

Re: Aligning tailgate
Read this, it's how I ended up adjusting so the tailgate didn't rub:

Re: Aligning tailgate
How about pulling the drivers side in closer? Do I just strap the stake pockets together and tighten it?
