Steering column plug question
Hey everyone, I have a 76 1500 and I'm tying to swap a non tilt for a tilt. One issue is this plug is different. Is there a way to release the pins and wires from the plug and just swap the plug? Or do I need to swap the column harness or just cut and solder?

Re: Steering column plug question
Above is the existing columns plug and below is the tilt column plug. Both columns have the same feathers.

Re: Steering column plug question
Wiring is longer on a tilt column... btw.
I've swapped lots of columns and never had to mess with the wiring. Are you using a like column year? 84-up are different and not swap-able without lots of unnecessary work. |

Re: Steering column plug question
It would be helpful to know what year column you are swapping in. The plugs aren't actually different other than the length of the wiring for the tilt and the fact 84 up models are different. 73-74 trucks(maybe early 75s) had a shorter plug but the only problem that presents is if installing a newer turn signal switch into the earlier columns, the plug won't hold into the metal clips on the column.

Re: Steering column plug question
I'm pretty sure it came out of a 76 4x4 3/4 ton. Would gm and Chevy use different plugs?
