What size is the radio opening supposed to be?

On my 65 there is a delete panel for the radio. I want to find a 2 knob and a speaker for it. Question I have before I pry off that panel is: what size radio and knob spacing do I want? I see some real nice buick radios out there but not sure if they will fit. Faceplates of about 4x2.5"

The delete is held on by two spring like clips. Takes two seconds to pop it off and on.

Mine shows 6.5" between knobs, and the radio faceplate rectangle is 4.5x1.5". So next question is, if I can't find an FM GMC radio, what other radios will fit in the space? Not interested in using a chevy one but any other GM or other brands is ok.

I have a new usa--230 radio in my truck I love it! They fit with no modifications to the dash. They make them with a gmc or chevy logo. It has am/fm stations as well as an auxiliary hook up for phones/mp3 players.

64K20 - I saw those on eBay. They do look alright! I was trying to keep it looking period but the more I think about the last "period" radio I had the less I want another. I put a perfectly restored FM Blaupunkt in my 1966 Porsche and it was great as long as you didn't go between stations and then you had to really fine tune.

I don't think you're going to find what you want, I've been looking for basically the same thing for some time. A period, factory radio with FM that fits the stock hole. I'm interested to see how this turns out. I've just about decided I'd settle for AM, I mostly listen to talk radio anyway.

I think I am going to end up with a new radio - the ones with the digital face plate that looks older. Not thrilled about it but I need to be practical with the radio - as much as I like listening to the diesel sometimes in traffic its nice to have some FM.
