Dorman 615-183X intake
Has anyone used this aftermarket truck intake manifold? It looks good and with a little bit of work, it could look as good as the LS6 intake on the outside. It appears to be a direct replacement for the ugly truck intake for gen III motors.
The trailblazer SS intake seems to be for gen IV motors.

Re: Dorman 615-183X intake
I'm hoping it flow as good if not better than the stock truck intake. I just can't use the stock intake because it is too ugly. I'm building a hi-po 6.0L on a frame off restoration.

Re: Dorman 615-183X intake
I cant deny it looks much better.
im just saying personally I would only consider it after finding a flow chart or dyno chart VS the stock intake manifold. |

Re: Dorman 615-183X intake
I looked at those also. Seems like most of the chatter I saw about them was related to them holding boost. Like you, I want to get rid of the UGLY truck intake.....and the LS6 used intakes are not very cheap. Everything I read stated that with some mild porting these would be great intakes. I'm just not sure the time it will take to clean them up is worth the cost difference.

Re: Dorman 615-183X intake
Well, I ordered the Dorman 615-183X intake. Not sure what is different from the Dorman 615-183 intake. I'll let you guys know if it works out or not.

Re: Dorman 615-183X intake
I can't use a car intake. I would have to change everything. The Dorman intake was $199 shipped. Both truck intakes out performed the LS6 intake.

Re: Dorman 615-183X intake
That's not what I have read.....the truck intake out performs the LS1 intake. The trailblazer intake is the better one that really shines. The LS6 is about 15hp average for everything I have read. And ya.....I'm having to swap water pumps, TB's and run some adapters for the injector connectors.

Re: Dorman 615-183X intake
According to Hotrod, the trailblazer intake out performed the LS6 intake in power and torque everywhere.

Hard to compare apples to apples. LS1- 535 LS6- 557 TBSS- 562 stock truck- 549 And I was assuming you were using a pull-out and just doing a swap. If that's not the case then I stand corrected and apologize. I'm no expert and am learning as I go through my build. Last edited by Chris Coufal; 03-26-2016 at 10:01 PM. |
