Rear Drum to Disc Conversion
I have a 72 c10, 12 bolt 3.08 rear with drum brakes and I finally have the funds saved up to do the full brake upgrade, new master, new booster, etc. Where the question comes in, is which kit for the rear drum to disc conversion. I've heard mixed reviews on the CCP kits and even worse from brothers and LMC. I really need some feedback on your experiences both good and bad from some kits you guys have tried and what works best.

personally I think you should skip upgrading the rear and do a front brake upgrade
front brakes can account for up to 75% of the braking power and thus could benefit from a multi piston caliper and larger front pads/discs... |

If you MUST do it, give performance online (POL) a look to see what they have. If I were doing it, I'd use this one: https://www.performanceonline.com/71...it-rear-5-lug/ (includes parking brake setup, etc - gotta make sure it works with your wheels though). I've had better experiences with their customer service. Having said that - restoring a bone stock braking system is more than sufficient for a 1/2 ton (or 3/4 ton...) You most likely won't feel any appreciable braking improvement with rear disks. And arranging parking brakes can be a mess ... (unless part of a well thought out kit). Make sure to consider that in any kit - there may be some custom work involved in the parking brake work. Rear drums are so often out of adjustment on these old trucks - I know that when I rebuilt my stock C20 brakes - and I mean everything - the braking performance was drastically improved, and it was just returned to stock. Anyway, that's just my 2cents on it. Rear disks are cool though...

I'm planning on doing the front's as well, I'm running 16" Cragers now so going with the larger discs shouldn't be an issue. I have considered keeping the drum brakes on the back just replacing the drums and painting them. But I'm not sure.

again if it were my budget I wouldn't bother doing rear disc.
just refresh the drums, upgrade the front and keep some cash in your pocket |

Factory stock brakes to new specs are fine for most people. I'd do a full rebuild with premium pads and quality front rotors. Use the money saved for the rear disc kit to buy a posi or a luncbox locker.

Excellent advice!! I know of 2 separate trucks owned by buddy's of mine, one a disc conversion on the front and one a 4 wheel conversion. Stopping it doesn't make a noticeable difference. But then again it's not a sports car or a HD truck stopping under a HEAVY load!! And then again...... It is your truck do what makes you content.
