3rd door locking help
I feel like an idiot, but I need more help than the diagram that has been posted. I have the inner door locking rods and all that but no matter how I try to install it there is some sort of interference with the window rolling down etc...What is the order of installation? Do i need to remove any of the window rolling parts? Please help a brotha out

Re: 3rd door locking help
If you are working from the manual, that shows the order of installation then that's what you have to follow.
You do not need to take any of the window roller mechanism out, and if it is interfering with your lock rods you installed the lock rods incorrectly. Remove and repeat.. I feel your pain, it took me quite a few tries to get it right. I think the best trick I used when installing mine, was taping the button rod to a wire. Fish the wire through the lock button hole, then use the wire to help support the lock rod set while you get it lined up to screw into place. Oh, and I found that the ONLY clips that worked were the OE clips. I broke a couple, and tried using new ones. They just didn't clip solid enough to the rods, and the hole was too big so it made the assembly sloppy. Spent ages hunting for those dang clips...

Re: 3rd door locking help
i dont have a manual...I was just looking at the diagram that was posted on a few threads here on the forum. Also, my top rod that runs the length of the door has a part in the middle with a bend or hump in it...is that stock? Thanks

Re: 3rd door locking help
I have posted the page from the manual a few times here, so you are probably looking at that. Every 3rd door lock mechanism I have ever seen has a straight rod that goes from front to back of the door, so maybe you have something that is not right or damaged.
Can you post a picture of what you are working with?

Re: 3rd door locking help
Ya Ill throw a pic up in the morning. The pieces I am working with came in a box that came with the burb when I bought it. It seems to be the right stuff...and all the other doors have thier parts so I assumed that it's the original stuff that he never re installed. Ill throw a pic up soon and you can tell me if everything looks ok. It shouldnt be that difficult but man it is tough to see what youre working with up there in door! Right now only one of my three doors lock and I am not able to lock my rear hatch so I dont feel real safe leaving it anywhere. Thanks so much!

Re: 3rd door locking help
Well that's different...
I haven't seen a lock rod like that, every one I have seen up until now has been straight as an arrow. I looked in a 1970 chassis manual, and I looked in my 67-68 chassis manual. Both show a straight rod being illustrated. Took a few pictures of the manual, showing installation method.

Re: 3rd door locking help
Thanks! Those definately help...but can you tell me if all this stuff goes on the backside of the window equipment or the front side? I installed the hardware and my door locks but there is no way the window will roll down...

Re: 3rd door locking help
The lock hardware fits so close the the inner door, that there should be no way the window mech should interfere.
Is the bowed out portion of the horizontal rod protruding out towards the window mech? I have run into this issue as well, and the bottom line is that it is in wrong. Plus it is so tricky to assemble, and I did it so long ago that I can not tell you specifics other than to follow the instructions and take your time.
