Sm420 removal help
Hey guys im working on pulling the tranny from my 65 c20 to replace the clutch. And so far i have pulled the drive shaft and working on the gear box. But im having trouble, on the left side of the tranny i noticed it only had one of 2 bolt. And on the right ride ive located the top bolt but cant seem to find another. Isnt there a total of 4 bolts that need to be removed. If any one can help with aome tips on how to remove the gear box from the bell housing that would be great. Ive looked all over google and cant find anything to help me with this specific trannt2

Re: Sm420 removal help
The other two are probably on the inside of the bell housing. On mine, the top two bolts screwed in from the cab side, the bottom two bolts screwed in from the engine side.

Re: Sm420 removal help
Just for future reference you don't have to pull the bell-housing to change the clutch OR in your case that pile of pieces.....

Re: Sm420 removal help
Did you pull the trans without removing the shifter?

Re: Sm420 removal help
Yes i used a jack rotated it and managed to slide it out. Took a little bit of man handling trying not to get it caught in the e brake hardware and bell housing. After that the bell housing and clutch came out easy

It was only a few screws and the starter and it gave me a ton of space to work with. Another question should i leave tge flywheel in or remove and get re surfaced. Anything else i should do now that the tranny is out. |

Re: Sm420 removal help
have the flywheel surfaced or buy a new one. depends on how much they charge to surface your old f/w. also make sure you put the clutch disc in the correct way (should be marked f/w side. remove the shifter. push down on the collar and rotate it counter clockwise, collar will pop up then pull stick up and out.

Re: Sm420 removal help
I bought a $100 zoom clutch kit from summit. It has a little chatter in it. Is it in the clutch? Probably. you get what you pay for. If i was buying one again i would buy a center-force for a couple hundred more. Depends on how much $$$ you have to spend on one.

So i found this one kit on summit and looks likt it comes with all i need. Hardware bushing and bearing. Now i read the discription and it says its for high horse power. Is this okay for what i need or is there a lower end clutch i should look at. Dont mind spending more money if its going to last longer but dont want to over spend on somthing that im not using to or benifiting from. http://m.summitracing.com/parts/ctf-kdf355216 |

Re: Sm420 removal help
You might ask in the engine and drivetrain forum for a good clutch package for your tk. I'm not and expert by any means, and the C/force stuff is big money. goggle is your friend also. I'm sure my zoom clutch was made over seas.
