Idle temperature?

What temps are you guys getting too after idling for a few minutes? My truck stays around 180 while driving and about 220 when idling. It seems like my electric fan isn't keeping up. Is that too warm or is that a normal temp when not moving?

Re: Idle temperature?

Mine runs 175-185 all the time..what size cfm fan are you running? I've got dual fans on mine and when idling both run..fan 1 comes on at 175 and fan 2 comes on at 185..what truck is the engine in? Have you had it running long? Did you get all the air out of the engine?

I've had it running about 2 months now. All the air is out. It's a 6.0 lq4. The dual fans are EBay fans and are supposed to be 1400 cfm each. Not sure if they really are. I need to tune my fans to come on sooner too. They don't turn on until about 210.

Re: Idle temperature?

In traffic with a stock stat I idle around184-190. On a 102* on an asphalt lot I saw 214 while still, but cooled immediately under movement.

Re: Idle temperature?

Mine seems to cool pretty quick while driving too. That's what makes me think the fan is either not powerful enough or it's coming on too late and it's harder to cool down.

Re: Idle temperature?

where do you guys check to see what temp it is? I'm running 2 fans its 102 today and I notice my gauge started to mark the half point. I've only been driving the truck a few days but its usually at the 1/4 point. I also seen something about air in the system. how does one bleed the air out? thank you

Re: Idle temperature?

Lowrodder..I assume you have a gauge that don't have numbers...i don't like em..hard to tell what ya got numerically..you need to get a temp number first then go from there..getting the air out of a ls engine is done simply by taking the top hose loose from radiator and filling the engine completely with coolant..that's how I did mine anyway..
