Question 56 Chevy

A little off topic here guy's but my dad is fixing to buy this car. We are going to look at it next week and if he likes it as much in person as he does by the pictures he is buying it.
I have a couple of questions though.

The motor as you can see is a 96 LT-1 along with the 4l60E.
Can I add the electric cruise control like I did in my truck to it?
I also have herd bad things about the distributor on these motors. Anything I need to be concerned with.
Anything else I need to look for.

You might want to google "LT1 optispark" to learn more about the problems and solutions. I think GM improved them in 1995.

First thing I'd do is get fresh air into the throttle body from somewhere other than the radiator fan!

That is one of our first mods. A real cold air kit like on my truck.

The first major thing is adding AC but I've already got that covered I hope.

The older opti-spark was a bad design, but like the other guy said, they improved them in the later years, although I still dont think they were fool proof.

As for the cruise control, yes, you can add it just like on your truck, the LT1 PCM will put out the same 4000ppm signal that the cruise module needs.

I was hoping you would make a post. I was going to message you if you didn't.
The guy that has the car is a friend of mine and he says it's never gave him problems. The car only has 5000 miles on it since the motor and trans has been put in.
So I can buy the same module that I got from you then and wire the same way and get a turn signal switch like the one you sent me.

Can you post the year model modules I can use please again. What year turn signal switch also if you know of any.

Well we drove it home today! Car ran great. No problems and it's clean and rust free. It's been garage kept for over 40 years. It's basically all Original inside and out.
The motor and transmission are newer (LT-1/4L60) along with full SS exshaust system with ceramic coated headers. car has some paint issues but dad is going to drive it so those will be took care of at a later date.

AC, cruise, cold air intake and electric wipers are the first mods and upgrades we need to get done.
That picture is worth everything to me. Dad has even named her already: MzEDNA after my mom.

Nice Shoebox!!

Just so you know, You can get rid of the opti-spark & run a LS PCM & "COP" Ignition, It being a '96 LT1 with a Crank Trigger makes it all that much easier.

https://www.eficonnection.com/home/p...-wo-ckp-sensor Then all you need is a Harness, Custom tuned "0411" PCM, Coil Brackets & Coils.

If you keep the opti-spark.....Make SURE it is vented correctly, One hose goes too a Vacuum source, The other goes too the intake elbow (Fresh air), Moisture kills these distributors! If you do end up having too replace it, ONLY use the latest GM distributor.....https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ado-19212300

Your welcome, Just check on the vents!

I would consider installing a factory deep pan on the 4L60E, A new GM pan is dirt cheap, https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-24240...ype=automotive
