Exclamation Restoring 67 Short to honor my sister

I purchased a 67 Chevy truck that I've been working on with the goal to restore it and paint it teal for Ovarian Cancer. It's my way of honoring my sister Monica that we lost to OC, continuing to do something for her and in her name and also to use it to spread awareness.

I contacted our local news station and they were thrilled to cover our story. You can view the video here: http://www.yourcentralvalley.com/new...ncer-awareness

I plan to volunteer anywhere I can to spread awareness even if it's not cancer related. My sister was only 39 and special needs. She was the glue and sunshine of our family and we've all had our world turned upside down. We're really trying to not let our loss be in vain and we want to help anyone we can. If it helps even just one person you never know, that one person could've been my sister or any special woman in your life.
You rarely, if ever, hear about OC and it has such a high mortality rate because there's no testing for it. We hope that we can do some good and bring awareness to women that may not know what to look out for. The big goal for us here is knowledge and one other thing I can't stress enough is genetic testing. Too many people are affected and the reality is when someone gets diagnosed they are blindsided. We all like to think it'll never happen to us but unfortunately nobody is immune or safe.

This June 19, 2016 made it a year since we lost her. There’s so much work to be done in regards to cancer. We are lacking knowledge, options, treatment and proper care. Many women are forced to travel for treatment and this is completely unacceptable. I’ve been documenting and taking pictures of the work I’ve done so far and I plan to do that throughout the whole process and share it on Instagram SereneJules30 and anywhere else I can.

I’m doing this solo since I just don’t have the funds to drop it off to someone and let them make it beautiful. It’s also a labor of love and also frustration to make things far better than they are and have some change. Let's take care of one another.

Re: Restoring 67 Short to honor my sister

i have several close friends and family that have been or are dealing with cancer. including my 9-year old niece. it's a terrible thing. don't know much about that oc type, but good for you spreading the word. early detection is key.

how about some photos of the truck? any progress so far?

I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope that your family considers getting genetic testing done to hopefully get ahead of these diagnoses. OC is very deadly and aggressive and unfortunately there's no testing and many women are misdiagnosed. There's photos and video in the link I shared above but so far I've been focusing on bodywork and hopefully soon will be a new engine/transmission! I'm a newbie on here but I'll figure out posting pictures ASAP!
