Call him and give him your carb number and he will tell you what should be in there. He will also ask you a bunch of questions about what your plans are for your build, so be prepared and honest so that he can give you accurate advice. He may suggest something other than stock to get your engine to perform to the level that you desire.

Buy his book also, very good resource. It's got a lot technical information besides the rebuild process.

I took my standard Q-Jet from my 1972 350 and put it on a 383 stroker that I built with vortec heads. After describing my plans (remember, he will ask a lot of questions), he suggested the proper jets for my application and it has performed flawlessly. It idles great, off the line power is linear, and when the secondaries open, it makes a beautiful sound!

Good luck.
^this is very good advice!

I rebuilt the quadrajet on my current truck (which is the old carb off my 71) with cliff's jets, rods, air bleeds etc and the thing runs like a champ.

Stock doesn't necessarily mean optimal.
