Room to Drop the Oil Pan?
Anyone know if there is enough room to drop the oil pan in a '84 K10 with the engine in place?
Long story short is I have to retrieve something that fell and landed on my windage tray. That mean the pan must come off.

That's good news.
Can I reuse the pan gasket? Its the blue rubber type from fel-pro. I assume I cant because of the gasket maker in the corners..?

If it's the one piece style and still in good shape you probably could get away with it. Make sure to put a little rtv in the corner areas where leaks are common.

make sure you clean all the oil off of it. maybe with some dish soap. i used some paper towels then a dry rag when i reused mine. i also picked at the gasket maker that i had put in the corners till i got it all off. a little time consuming but worth it

It seems I got lucky (I use that term loosely) because the gasket stayed well adhered to the engine block. I'll make sure the gasket is oil free when I assemble it.
Only issue I can see is the oil pump pickup was in the bottom of the pan when I took the pan off. Maybe I knocked it off when I pulled the pan down..? Is it possible it fell off before I removed the pan? EEEK!

Well, I slipped it back on. I hope it stays put. It was a new oil pump but reused the pick-up. IDK why they didn't just make it with a 5* taper so it locks tight.
Thanks for the comments guys. Fishing went well and I retrieved the dropped item. I wiped out the bottom of the pan and lightly wiped the seal down with some brake Kleen on a rag. Everything slid into place.

They make a little bracket that clamps on the pick-up tube and bolts to the oil pump. I would at least do that. If the pick-up comes back out while you are driving you will have zero oil pressure, and serious damage.

I will call my parts store and see if they have anything like what you described. The pan is back on but no oil in it. It could come off easily. I keep a close eye on my oil psi and it was acting fine before I removed the pan.
