glew in door seals or buy new ones
I bought a set of Steel Rubber Products door seals and they do not stay in place. I am trying to figure out if I should get another brand, (thinking of going the honda civic wrought), or try to use some kind of gasket glue to hold them in place. The doors shut pretty good with the seals that are on there now, that is when they are in place, so that is not an issue.

Re: glew in door seals or buy new ones
Years ago when I replaced my door seals on my 65, I seem to remember using some kind of glue.
If the new ones you have now seal good, what's your concern about just gluing them? I did buy the civic ones, but I haven't tried them on yet. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=617703

Re: glew in door seals or buy new ones
I heard some complaining in another thread about trying to get the gasket off after it had been glued on and wishing they had done it differently.

recommend look into Dodge Dakota door seals - some folks on here seem to swear by them. Google on this site and you'd find some info.

Just glue them. How often do you plan on removing them?

I was reluctant to spend the money but I'm glad I did. I highly recommend them. If you need more information or can't find the old thread, I'll be glad to help you. Also, the internet dealer that I used was the cheapest I could find. Local they were over $100. |

3M Super Weatherstrip adhesive is usually the stuff to use. Like said, if they fit and your only issue is they don't stay in place, whats the harm in gluing them on?

Mine don't even remotely stay in place. PO may as well just used grease instead of glue.
What year civic do you buy? One Civic door will do one truck door?

Re: glew in door seals or buy new ones
I agree, if they fit and just need help staying in place just glue them with the 3M adhesive and save yourself some money. The Civic seals are great but I wouldn't say they fit any better than ones that require some glue. Unless you plan on constantly removing them if your truck is going through various states of restoration then a little bit of glue is the way to go.
If you do decide to go the Honda route there is a thread on it somewhere here. Just be sure to read through the whole thread since I found there was a part number correction noted half way through.

Re: glew in door seals or buy new ones
There are two types of 3M adhesive that you can buy with similar item numbers. Verify with Steele which number to use. I learned that the hard way but can't remember which one was correct. That Honda seal is really Mickey mouse stuff. Don't do it.

Re: glew in door seals or buy new ones
I just this past Thursday pulled off the glue on type and replaced them with press on that I ordered from Classic Parts part number 03-013B - (1960-66) Press On Door Rubber Seals - On Cab - pair $49.95. They fit the cab so perfect I would never mess with the glue on!
