Finding a Good Engine Ground

As the title states.. need to find a good engine ground.. hooking up a MSD 6AL w/ rev limiter box, and the harness says it needs a ground coming from the middle of three prongs on the distributor going to a 'engine ground'. Whats a good place for this?

I have a Edelbrock Performer RPM intake (aluminum), and a Holley 750 on top of it.

Would a carb stud be okay? I was told aluminum doesnt ground well. I was also thinking putting it on the alternator bracket. Would a bracket work?

1984 K30 454. Stock HEI, plus the mentioned box.

With the two choices you mentioned I would go with alternator bracket..make sure to clean any paint/grease off of it..any bolt going into the engine block would work as well..make sure you have a good ground from engine to frame and body..your battery to engine ground would be a good place but would mean a longer wire..

One traditional ground is the engine to firewall cable that runs from the passenger side valve cover bolt to the firewall. They often disappear during engine work so make sure you have one regardless of where you decide to ground your gizmo.

If the Performer series still includes the threaded holes for the coil bracket, you could use one of those. Use a stud and two nuts instead of a simple screw.

Thank you all for the help. I decided to run it to the alternator bracket, as I have RTV on my valve cover bolts, so I didn't want to take my chances.

I use the accessory bolt holes on the back of the head, firewall side. They are 3/8 bolt holes.

That's where the cab to engine ground strap should go as well. Not to the valve cover bolt.
