LS3 525ct with carburetor tuner
Hello All,
I am looking for someone in Long Beach, CA or the surrounding area that actually specifically tunes LS3 525ct crate motors (A race shop maybe). Not looking for someone that thinks they can just because they tune LS motors. Remember this motor has a carburetor. I don't want to pay for someones learning curve. I have done a pretty good job getting the motor running but it still needs some fine tuning and I need some professional help. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

Re: LS3 525ct with carburetor tuner
Is the motor out of the car? My local shop has an engine dyno and there are big AirFuel meters on the wall, so you can watch as they get closer and closer... obviously of no use to you down there, but it's something to look for. Chassis dynos are fine too, I just don't have much experience tuning carbs with them.
Look for someone who specializes in that CARB, rather than LS motors, as you say. Don't even bring up that it's an LS, just mention the displacement and carb type and see what kind of feel you get from them.

Re: LS3 525ct with carburetor tuner
All the magazines out there use Westech, they can tune anything. I'd have it tuned after its in the car and by someone with a chassis dyno, most have AFR built in. They can tune for power and drive ability mostly on the dyno and then go for a spin around the block to verify everything.

Re: LS3 525ct with carburetor tuner
Problems are on the high end. When you put your foot into it at 50MPH and above it drops vacuum but seems to be starving for fuel. It will sputter for a second or two and then pick up. Has an auto trans. I backed the vacuum off from 9.0 to 4.5 so that it will idle. Brand new 4150 (650) Holly double pumper. I have tried several tuning curves. Right now I have the #4 tuning curve in the LSX ignition. Has a holly 95 GPM fuel pump on it. Should be getting plenty of gas.

Re: LS3 525ct with carburetor tuner
If it's sputtering or bogging when you get into the throttle it's almost certainly an accelerator pump issue. Sometimes it's as simple as adjusting it for more stroke, sometimes you might need a different pump cam, or so on. Or the pump diaphragm could be bad too, that's always possible.
I'd start by adjusting it and see if you can improve it. If you hit the limit of adjustment before the problem is solved, it'll take a different cam likely. Just my guess!

Re: LS3 525ct with carburetor tuner
I have a 750 Street HP on my cammed LS1. I bought it used and it has a 50cc front pump with a .035 squirter. It's never had any hesitation or bog. It really seems to like it. I just can't seem to get the rich idle taken care of.
