Re: Can you replace a solenoid on a LS starter?

The star sockets arrived today and I could only get one of the bolts out. The other two are too close to the case. I gave up and went back on eBay and found a new, "open box" starter for $40. Done. I'll sell the solenoid when it arrives, and now I have a set of star sockets!

On my LT1 (95 Z28) the starter was designed to make it nearly impossible to replace the solenoid. I ended up with a budget starter like the one in your original post and so far (6 months later) it's working great. The only problem I had with it was that the posts on the solenoid were reversed (battery connected to inboard post on new starter vs. outboard post on OEM). The cable was long enough and flexible enough that it wasn't really a problem.
