Steering Column Upgrade
I am not a mechanic ,,, I do have a mechanic though The next project that I want to take on,,, and have done to my 1987 R-10 ,,, is to have the original steering column replaced with a new tilt steering column,, I have already installed a new steering box to the truck,, would like to keep that if possible,,, anyway ,,, the price on a new steering column in the LMC catalog is ,,, well,,, its a lot I have been told that the best way to go about this is to pick up a column from the junk yard,,,
My question is,,, what should I be looking for in a used column are there certain years or models that the column should be coming off of ,,, how much should I be looking pay,,, if the junk yard column is the route I should be going,,, I would rather do the leg work in finding the column and save my mechanic the trouble of spending his time going on a scavenger hunt,,, |

Re: Steering Column Upgrade
I would suggest getting a tilt column from ebay, often times they are rebuilt with new ignition switch and tilt is nice and tight and repaired properly. You will need a 84+ steering column with the wipers and high beams built into the turn signal stock.

Re: Steering Column Upgrade
If you haven't used this website before, it's a nice site to search salvage yards. I found several local yards I didn't even know existed.

Re: Steering Column Upgrade
I see new tilt columns all the time in several lengths to fit most vehicles. Speedway Motors, Summit and probably Jegs have them for $2-300.
